POST 4: A person I would like to meet
Okay so, another week, another post; and in this time I'm going to talk about a person I would like to meet. When we talk about someone who is alive there is always a little chance to say, maybe in a lucky day I can meet him, but today's post is dedicated to someone who is not longer in this world. Part of the Yancey Boys and one classical 90's hiphop band, Slum Village, James Dewitt Yancey most well known as JDilla was a music producer and beatmaker in the late past century.
He was kind of famous because of his music and lyrics in SV, but for the producers community he is way more important that just that. Is in the way he use to produce where we found the magic and the innovation he brought to the HipHop scene. In the late 90's he became the master of beats moving his music in other direction from the things people were doing by the time, including Pete Rock, the famous producer. By using the AKAI MPC 3000 and the art of sampling Dilla showed the new HH sound that later will influence many hiphop producers, lyricist, MC's and the industry.
I even consider myself, indeed, influenced by this character and the way he did thing. Not using the quantify tools, the use of jazz and blues samples (legends singers and composers) but always looking for a new rhythm that make the people break ya' neck. I would love to talk with him about feelings, the way he understand the life, not just kicks and snares. I would love to know what he may be doing in the today's world and what we can do from our land of rhythm and poetry.
